Malaysia has been known with badminton since 1970 with Datuk Punch Gunalan that lead Malaysia on that time. Malaysia had won their first Thomas Cup in Kuala Lumpur. Datuk Punch Gunalan also had paired with Ng Boon Bee as men double pair and had won world prestigious All England title, Danish, Canadian and U.S Open title.
Other than that, Malaysia also had a talented player such as Datuk Misbun Sidek and he was the eldest son in Sidek brother's. He has won several major world title. In 1981 SEA Games in Manila, he has won gold medal and help steer the national team to a second place in 1988 Thomas Cup.
Datuk Lee Chong Wei is a top player in Malaysia and World. He has won a lot of world prestigious and been known as number one player in world. He had lead Malaysia team in SEA Games and Thomas Cup.
