Badminton Player In Malaysia

Datuk Lee Chong Wei

Datuk Lee Chong Wei was born October 21 in 1982 in Georgetown, Penang. He is a professional badminton player in Malaysia. He won the silver medal in 2008 Olympic Game, thus becoming the first Malaysia to reach the final of the men’s singles event and ending Malaysia’s Olympic medal since the 1996 games. All of the achievement also named him as a Datuk and description by Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’s Sri Haji Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak as a national hero.
He was ranked first worldwide on August 21 in year 2008 in a single game. He is the third Malaysian men’s singles shuttler after Rashid Sidek and Roslin Hashim to achieve such ranking. He repeated the achievement twice more in 2012 and 2016, thus making him the most successful Malaysian Olympian in history. Beside that, Datuk Lee Chong Wei is a master with most badminton techniques. However, what makes him be a world champion is his effective and organised badminton footwork which can provides him with extraordinary speed. Apart from his speed, he has a good body balance. When you observe him during a game, you can see he can regain his balance and return to the center of the count very quickly.



Goh Liu Ying

Goh Liu Ying was born on 30 May 1989 in Malacca. When she is 10 years old, she is first started training in badminton. She enrolled into the Bukit Jalil Sports School when she was 13 years old. She is a professional badminton player in Malaysia. She has been consistently ranked among top 10 mixed doubles player in the world with her partner, Chan Peng Soon. They both won the silver medal in year 2016 in Summer Olympics.

Chan Peng Soon

Chan Peng Soon was norn in 27 April 1988 in Georgr Town, Penang. He first started playing badminton at age seven but only began training seriously when he was 12. In the education part, he only completed Form three before dropped out of school to concentrated fully on badminton. He joined the national team when he was 18. He is a professional badminton player specialised in the mixed doubles event in Malaysia. His badminton partner is Goh Liu Ying. They have been consistently ranked among the top 10 mixed doubles pair in the world.

Chan Peng Soon and his Malacca-born partner, Goh Liu Ying have achieved the  highest world ranking at No. 3 in the mixed doubles category.

Koo Kien Keat

Koo Kien Keat was born in 18 September 1985 in Ipoh, Perak. He started his studies at St. Michael’s Institution in Ipoh, Perak. After he completed his secondary school studies, he received an offer to go to Bukit Jalil Sports School. He is a former Malaysian professional badminton player. Tan Boon Heong is his best partner in the both men’s and mixed doubles badminton game. They both succeeded in this badminton game. He reached a career high ranking of world number 1. He announced his retirement to become a coach for the Granular Club of Thailand in 2013. He later come out of retirement in 2015 and reunited with Tan Boon Heong on a bid to qualify for their third Olympic outing.

Tan Boon Heong

Tan Boon Heong was born in 18 September 1987 in Alor Setar, Kedah. He is a former World No.1 Malaysian male professional badminton player in the men’s doubles event. His partner is for Koo Kien Keat. Although they comeback was considerably successful in their third Olympic outing. They both narrowly failed to qualify for Rio 2016. He won the bronze and sliver medal at the 2009 and 2010 World Championships.

Their dynamic and explosive game style make them achieved to get their gold medals. Unfortunately, their winning streak came to an end eventually and after an early round exit in 2013. After that, Koo Kien Keat resigned and became a trainer and player for the Granular Club in Thailand. In 2014, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed that the 29 years old national shuttler will be participating in the 2014 World Championships with Tan Boon Heong. Their last match together was in their third round where they lost to a pair from Taipei, with a score of 19-21 in the deciding game.
